Participants will learn the fundamentals of crime scene assessment\, evidence collection and processing\, witness interviews and statement gathering\, and the legal requirements for obtaining search and arrest warrants. Participants will also receive sample affidavits for search and arrest warrants\, as well as case review checklists to assist in preparing cases for submission to prosecutors. \nThis course also covers custodial interrogations\, investigative resources available to support case development\, and the preparation of clear\, accurate reports that support successful prosecution. \nCourse Objectives: \n\nUnderstand the roles and responsibilities of a criminal investigator within the Maine/Federal Criminal Justice System.\nUnderstand constitutional and statutory requirements that govern criminal investigators including search and seizure\, interrogations (custodial/non-custodial) and operating within guidelines of SOPs.\nDevelop investigative plans for systematic investigations using current best practices.\nConduct effective interviews of victims\, witnesses\, and suspects using legally defensible and ethical techniques.\nIdentify\, document\, collect\, preserve and submit physical evidence while maintaining chain of custody.\nIdentify resources and other agencies to support and assist your investigations.\nPrepare clear\, accurate\, and complete investigative reports for prosecution.\n\nEquipment Needed: \n\nLaptop recommended\n\nMLEAP Accreditation Standard: \n\nThis course meets the following MLEAP Standards:\n\n7.06 – Miranda Warning\n7.07 – Interrogation\n7.08 – Search and Seizure Warrants (only partially meets standard)\n7.11 – Preliminary Investigations\n\n\n\n			\n				Download MLEAP Training Proof
