DESCRIPTION:Instructor:\nChristian Behr \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Domestic Violence Investigations\nNovember 18 @ 8:00 am – 4:00 pm\nDeadline to register is November 2nd!\nThis training provides a specialized\, in-depth look at best practices and ways of helping survivors through the initial call for service through successful prosecution. During classroom discussion and group activities\, participants will learn more in-depth investigation into DV crimes including strangulation and completion of Ontario Domestic Assault Risk Assessment (ODARA). Participants will review specific case studies and work on policy development into DV investigations. \nCourse Objectives: \n\nAnalyze the key elements of domestic violence investigations\, including criminal offenses\, culpable states of mind\, and evidentiary requirements\, to identify factors that support successful prosecution.\nApply established best practices for responding to domestic violence calls for service\, including victim-centered approaches that enhance survivor safety and engagement throughout the criminal justice process.\nConduct comprehensive domestic violence investigations by gathering\, documenting\, and evaluating evidence related to domestic violence offenses\, including cases involving strangulation.\nComplete and interpret the (ODARA) tool to assess offender risk factors and support informed bail and prosecutorial decision-making.\nEvaluate and develop domestic violence investigation policies and procedures through case study analysis and group exercises to improve organizational response and investigative outcomes.\n\nEquipment Needed: \n\nCopy of current department DV policy
