About Brian McDonough

Brian McDonough is a 32-year veteran law enforcement officer recently retired from the Maine State Police with extensive investigative and administrative management experience, most recently having served as the Commanding Officer for the Southern Major Crimes Unit. As a Lieutenant in the Major Crimes Unit, Brian was responsible for the overall management and day-to-day operations of a team of 20 detectives investigating the highest profile investigations in the state and continually interacting with local, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies, providing leadership and facilitating investigations.

During Brian’s time as Commanding Officer, he investigated or oversaw the investigation of over 900 deaths, managed the investigations of State Police officer involved shootings, and the Unit consistently maintained a highly successful record in solvability and conviction rates of greater than 95%. Furthermore, the unit was responsible for developing a number of initiatives and educational programs that have been implemented statewide in the areas of domestic violence, child abuse, Shaken Baby Syndrome, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
