Rick started his career in Walpole, MA in 1977. In the next few years Rick was promoted to patrol sergeant in 1981 and then patrol commander (Lieutenant) in 1988. He was assigned as the executive officer in 1992 and promoted to Chief in 2002. After retiring to work as the police chief in Bridgton, ME, the Town of Walpole named the new Walpole Police Station’s Community room after Chief Stillman for his work in brining the officers and community closer.
During Rick’s time in Bridgton, Maine, the devastation caused by the opiate crisis was the major concern and the department worked with the community to build trust and gain resources for those wanting a way out. We developed partnerships with drug counseling services, physicians working to reduce demand for opiates, with a mental health organization to review reports of repeat callers and help them to deal with the underlying cause of their issues. Through the work of the administrative assistant, we developed programs to bring the community closer, Bridgton Safety Day and National Night Out were huge successes.
Rick serves on the IACP’s Firearms Committee and has specifically been working with others on reducing thefts of firearms from homes and vehicles.
