This course provides responders with a comprehensive understanding of critical incidents, addressing the mental and emotional dimensions from initial response through long-term resolution. Participants will gain practical insight into how critical incidents affect individuals, teams, and organizations, along with the tools and resources needed to prepare for, manage, and recover from incident-related trauma. Emphasis is placed on mental wellness, resilience, and peer support to ensure sustainable performance in high-stress environments. By the end of the training, participants will be better equipped to support themselves, their peers, and their departments before, during, and after critical incidents.
Course Objectives:
- Define what constitutes a critical incident within a law enforcement context.
- Identify the key phases of a critical incident and potential outcomes during and after the event.
- Recognize the psychological and operational impacts on responders and departments.
- Understand the legal protections and support options available to responders.
- Identify post-incident resources, services, and support systems that promote personal mental wellness.
