Instructional Goal:
The goal of this unit of instruction is to familiarize the student with the challenges of investigating elder abuse cases and provide some additional resources that can be utilized during future investigations. A multi-disciplinary approach will be paramount to a successful investigation.
Performance Objectives:
After this unit of instruction, the student will be able to:
- Provide a definition for elder abuse.
- List the four major categories of elder abuse.
- Identify the primary Maine legal statutes related to elder crime investigations.
- Describe the primary goal when interviewing older individuals.
- Explain the roles of Power of Attorney, Guardian and Conservator.
- Analyze three elder abuse case studies to determine the appropriate steps for a proper resolution.
- Identify four primary considerations to create better outcomes in elder investigations.
