Instructional Goal:
This course discusses transgender inmates. This course will define terms related to gender and sexuality; identify appropriate and respectful means to engage transgender prisoner/inmates; discuss transgender prisoners/inmates and sexual violence; explain institutional response requirements as related to the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA); and identify outside support for transgender survivors of sexual violence.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Define transgender and other terms related to gender and sexuality.
- Identify appropriate and respectful means to engage transgender prisoners/inmates.
- Explain why transgender prisoner/inmates are more likely to experience sexual violence.
- Explain institutional response requirements as they relate to the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
- Identify outside support for transgender survivors of sexual violence.
