Maine drivers seem to have an addiction they can’t drop or put down, so the Holden Police Department is making a statement. Put down your cell phone while you drive or get a citation. In Maine it is illegal to manipulate an electronic device, while holding it in your hand and while driving, including while stopped in traffic. Initial tabulations show Holden PD, staffed by 6 full time and 5 part time officers, lead the state in distracted driving citations. This community of about 3000 people straddles Route 1A, the main corridor to Maine’s Down East region.
