This course is designed to enhance officers’ ability to detect truthfulness and deception by interpreting both verbal and nonverbal cues. Emphasizing what is left unsaid as much as what is spoken, the course provides insight into the emotional and psychological dynamics behind communication. Participants will gain practical tools to conduct more effective interviews and interrogations across a range of investigative scenarios. By understanding subtle indicators of omission and evasion, officers will be better equipped to uncover hidden information and improve case outcomes.
Course Objectives:
- Differentiate between interviews and interrogations and apply appropriate techniques for each.
- Recognize and interpret common deceptive verbal phrases and nonverbal cues.
- Prepare strategically for interviews by assessing subject types and building rapport.
- Analyze written and spoken statements for signs of evasion, sensitivity, or omission.
- Navigate legal considerations such as Miranda Rights while maintaining interview integrity.
