This course provides law enforcement personnel with comprehensive instruction on the proper management, control, and accountability of property and evidence. The course emphasizes best practices, legal considerations, and risk management strategies, essential to maintaining the integrity of evidence.
Students will review standards related to the receipt, documentation, storage, security, inspection, and disposition of property and evidence. The course also addresses common compliance deficiencies and provides practical guidance to ensure policies, procedures, and daily operations align with accreditation standards.
This training is ideal for detectives, evidence custodians, supervisors, command staff, and accreditation managers.
Course Objectives:
- Understand the legal responsibilities and proper background selection.
- Understand proper chain of custody.
- Learn best practices for proper packaging and storage.
- Understand intake and release procedures.
- Understand inventory and auditing best practices.
- Your duty to maintain access control and facility security.
- Realize the value of continuous inspections.
- Understand the importance of courtroom testimony.
- Consider accreditation needs, such as MLEAP.
