Scot Mattox retired in 2013 as a Sergeant with the Portland, Maine Police Department after 26 years of full-time law enforcement service. Throughout his career, he held various roles, including Patrol Sergeant, Directed Patrol and Tactical Enforcement Sergeant, and Internal Affairs Investigator. He is a former Maine Licensed Paramedic. Scot’s academic achievements include a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology, a Master of Public Policy and Management, and a Juris Doctor in Law. He graduated from the University of Maine School of Law in 2009 where he earned the Kenneth Clegg Memorial Legal Writing Award and is currently a member of the Maine Bar. He was shared his expertise as an Adjunct Instructor in Criminology, Juvenile Justice, and Law Enforcement Ethics at St. Joseph’s College of Maine, and in Police Use of Force and Police Procedure at Southern Maine Community College. He is currently a national certified law enforcement instructor by the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training.
After his tenure with the Portland PD, Scot transitioned to the role of Administrative Hearings Examiner for the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles before becoming Maine’s first Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor (TSRP). Today, he is the owner and CEO of Dirigo Safety, LLC, where he continues his TSRP contract work and oversees the company’s operations. Scot also serves as a reserve officer for Falmouth, Maine PD. His contributions to the field include work on several publications, such as the Cannabis Impairment Detection Workshop Handbook and the Maine OUI Guide and various other published articles. He has presented at numerous times at various traffic safety conferences including the Maine Impaired Driving Summit, the IACP Impaired Driving & Traffic Safety Conference, and internationally for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Dirigo Safety, LLC is a key vendor for several technical law enforcement related state programs and provides training, accreditation and policy writing services across New England.
