Instructional Goal
The student will be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS) and its key components. The student will be prepared to coordinate with response partners from all levels of government and the private sector. The student will understand that the situation must be efficiently and effectively coordinated using all available resources in a formalized system.
Objectives
The student will be able to accomplish the following objectives:
- Identify and define the Incident Command System
- Identify concepts and principles of the Incident Command System
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of Command Staff and General Staff
- Identify the rationale and procedures necessary for a Unified Command
- Understand how to develop effective response objectives, strategies, and tactics
- Understand how to establish and transfer command
- Identify the need for different levels of incident briefings and meetings
- Demonstrate an understanding of a real-world Incident Command System through the use of a model layout
